This is a step-by-step guide on fitting a alloy fuel cap to a Nova. This isn't a stuck on fuel cap but it completely replaces your existing plastic fuel cap with a 100% aluminium item.

It requires no modifications to the body work (like some older products that are about) and literally takes 5 minutes to fit. These fuel caps are available for the Nova and Astra. Other makes are being developed. It seems if the car has fuel cap (and not a cover, e.g. Calibra) then there will be a alloy fuel cap for that make of model.

Once fitted all that is required is that you keep it clean and just polish it. As its made out of aluminium it won't rust so maintenance is very low. You also get a new key for the fuel cap and a spare. Its actually much easier to use than the original Vauxhall cap, one twist and its off. Just before you start, make sure you note the following:

  • This is such a easy modification that there aren't any notes apart from that before you fit the new alloy fuel cap into place, ensure the two 'tabs' on the lock are lined up. You'll know what I mean if you have it in your hand. Otherwise it won't fit onto the car.

First remove the original fuel cap from the car. Place the new alloy fuel cap on and turn the key to lock it into place. And that's it, stand back and admire your 5 minute handiwork.
